LEARNING NEVER ENDS

Hello CAL Members,

I hope you are finding ways to enjoy some Christmas Spirit in this time of the strangest of all Christmases. My husband and I normally host a party for our neighborhood, but this year we’ve had to RETHINK what it means to PARTY. The basics are: folks getting together to share the year in stories, ‘break some bread’,  and imbibe. And while covid presents challenges to these activities indoors, we decided to take our party OUTSIDE around 2 fire pits, and an upright heater, with good social distancing and during daylight hours so we could harness the heat of the December sun. Rather than providing the basics for a meal, we asked that each family bring Tapas… a small plate that did not require utensils either for serving or eating. We provided beverages, hot and cold. And we had a great time, just in a different context. It turns out “all things are possible” and that Christmas Spirit is still alive and well. May you find ways to adapt and keep the Spirit alive at your houses.

As you may be aware, there has been an opening on the CAL Board for the position of Programs Chair. I’ve stepped up to take that on. It’s a bit daunting to try to plan for the year ahead, since we don’t know what our meeting schedule will be. But I have a lot of ideas for some exceptional local speakers. And I am also going to try to connect our membership with last years grant recipients. We have some truly fine organizations that we support.

I think this will give you an idea of how important your support of Bizarre Bazaar is and what you are accomplishing through your participation. I’m looking forward to moving beyond covid, back into our meeting space, all seated around large circular tables, talking, and laughing with one another and having a hoot of a good time. Until then, I’m wishing a Happy Holiday Season for you and yours.
