Dear Members,

If you recall, last September I was mulling over my many years of “back-to-school dreams”, the result of which was the presentation of a flashy pair of “Wednesday” panties at our general meeting.

This year, no school dreams, but a summer full of sleepless nights obsessing over the Community Assistance League’s 40th Anniversary Spectacular. It’s becoming obvious that I need things to worry about! However, my sleepless nights and many hours of meetings with Toni Sommer, Karen Hanna and Tracy Gibson, have resulted in what, we think, will be a very informative and sometimes humorous look at CAL’s history. For those of us who have only been in CAL since the early 2000’s, CAL has always been Bizarre Bazaar, but over the years it has been so much more. I hope that you will all come the celebration to learn and to revel in your part in a rich and varied organization. You will be proud!

We have decided to forgo the September business meeting so that we can spend the afternoon gathering with family and friends and enjoying CAL’s many successes.

The celebration will begin at 2:00 p.m., the doors will open at 1:30 p.m., on September 18 at the Panida Theater. Please come, bring your husband, family and friends, enjoy the presentation and share champagne and cake after!

We are reviving our CAL Membership Mixers this next year. Please sign-up to attend or to host a mixer; the sign-up sheets are at Bizarre Bazaar. Last year, members enjoyed the opportunities to meet in small groups.

Bizarre Bazaar has had a banner summer, with July and August sales breaking all records. We have been overwhelmed with donations all summer, and the store and the storage are brimming with goodies! Thank you to all who heeded the calls for help when the back room was awash in bags and boxes. It is the CAL spirit that gets us through the tough times!

I hope that you all had a lovely - too short - but smokeless summer. The weather gods have reminded us that autumn has arrived, and our fall routines will soon be in place. Please put a shift or two at Bizarre Bazaar into that routine. Your help is ALWAYS needed, and remember that volunteering is one of the obligations of CAL membership.

See you on the 18th at the Panida!
