Veteran's Day is November 11.
Sun Tzu was speaking as a general, but I think his words apply to how citizens should regard their soldiers.

“Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys. Look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death!”  --Sun Tzu

Dear CAL friends,

I hope you have all been to Bizarre Bazaar this week to see the transformation in to a holiday wonderland.  Sunday’s elves did a magnificent job in a few hours. I missed it for the first time having come down with some kind of G.I. upset, the details of which I will spare you. I was back to normal around Wednesday and wondering what I would do with a gallon of white chili I had made for the lunch at BizBaz on Sunday. The neighbors on my street were happy to help.

Next Friday, Nov. 13 is our annual “Holiday After Hours” party at the store. There will be hors d’oeuvres provided by the board and wine. The cash register will be open for your convenience and your husband’s consternation. It’s a great opportunity to share with friends and then make an evening out of it by going out to dinner.

This week will be a real test for me and for my already monumental muffin top. My calendar: Monday, lunch with friends; Tuesday, Women of Wisdom fundraiser at the Pend d’Oreille Winery; Wednesday, lunch at the Clark Fork Senior Center where we were invited to see the tables and chairs CAL bought for them in our grant program; Thursday, PEO luncheon and fund-raiser; and Friday, our After Hours party. Elastic waistbands are the greatest invention ever. The season has begun!

I heard from Ellen Weissman of the Sandpoint Senior Center that they are having a grand event on Saturday, November 14. It is their 40th anniversary and the ribbon cutting on their new beautiful and safe parking lot that CAL helped fund, again from our grants program. Stop by from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for their open house. If that isn’t enough you can stay from 1:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m. for country music, dancing and a potluck supper. If you would like more information please call 263-6860.

Perfect segue way into our own senior project. The senior giving tree will be at our November 18 General Meeting. Please come and adopt a senior so that they have a little present from us. It is the essence of Christmas to remember and care for our most vulnerable citizens. You will have until December 5 to get them to Bizarre Bazaar. Once we deliver them to the senior center the Meals-on-Wheels drivers will deliver them before Christmas.

That’s all the chatter for now. Stay warm, my friends. Winter came in swiftly this year, didn’t it?

Yours,

Sherry
