Dear friends,

I want to thank all of you who provided food and comfort for the Parsons family this week. Despite their grief they mentioned several times how grateful they were for our help. It was one of the most beautiful services I have ever attended. It was full of people who loved Clarice, the things said about her were personal and heartfelt, and the music was songs that Clarice loved. It was very poignant.

By now you all know that Sandpoint has lost Pam Bird in an air crash. I can’t believe that this happened on the heels of Forrest’s passing. In a less public way, we have lost Vivian Congreve this month too. This is turning out to be a year of difficult losses, and we are reminded that our world can change in seconds. So take care of yourselves and treasure one another.

New Member Tea Memories

Thursday was the New Member Tea. There were about 18 attending and we are so lucky to have them in our group. All were delightful and enthused to be with us. Joyce Spiller outdid herself. She converted her already lovely home into a Victorian parlor set up to serve tea on lacy white tablecloths and rose patterned plates. It was amazing, and she does it all unflappably. Actually she did flap a bit when four moose showed up outside during the tea and began to systematically tear up her trees. Meanwhile, the rest of us were thrilled by the show.

PS. Karen Hanna has added a picture album of the Tea on CAL’s website. There are two ways to view our photo albums:
1) Select New Member Tea 2015 to see all the pictures from the Tea) from the Photo Albums List on the left pane of the bulletin dated October 10, 2015 (under Upcoming Events Section)

or
2) Select Member Photo Albums on the menu bar on CAL's website; this method will require you to login to view them.

Our next meeting is October 21, and there are a lot of fun things in the works. There are still tickets to the wine-tasting available so if you haven’t bought a ticket yet you can do so. Be sure to bring your spouse or a friend. Trinity always does such a great job pairing wines. I can’t believe that it is that time already, but Linda Zinn will have tickets for the Kinderhaven Festival of Trees luncheon. That is always a sell-out so be ready to sign up to reserve a place. I am really looking forward to our program after the meeting. Our own B.J.’s husband, Neil Tietjen will be sharing his adventures as an “Old School NARC.” It will be the kind of program your husbands might enjoy.

I always like to share when I see or read anything special. I saw “The Martian” last week. It is a terrific movie. Matt Damon carries the whole movie and he is terrific. I have checked my reaction with others and they have confirmed that they too loved the movie.

Yours,

Sherry
