Early November Winter

Dear CAL members,

What a beautiful picture out my kitchen window. We went from autumn gold and orange on Halloween night to snowy white on Thursday. Being a winter baby, I love the snow and cold.

It's time again to share in a very special event for our shut-in seniors. Sherry Fulton has graciously accepted the role of organizing this year's senior gift tree. Our tree will be displayed at this month's November general meeting. Sherry will have stars on the tree representing a male or female senior. Please choose a star and buy a gift for a senior who otherwise would not have a Merry Christmas. Bizarre Bazaar is a wonderful place to shop for your gift. Gifts are delivered in December by Sandpoint Senior Center's Meals On Wheels program.

Both Kinderhaven and CAL's winter luncheon reservations will be available at this month's meeting.

Here's a little treat to warm your body on a cold winter evening.

Cider Wassail Punch

6 cups apple cider
2 cups cranberry juice
1 cup orange juice
1 medium orange, quartered
16 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks, 3"
1 cup rum
1/2 tsp. bitters (optional)

In a Dutch oven on medium heat, combine juices. Place orange, cinnamon, and cloves in a cheese cloth pouch. Add spice bag to juices.

Bring the liquid to a simmer. Add rum, bitters and additional orange slices. Discard spice bag before serving.

And some special news from Lily Mitsui about Falcon, her previously trained Canine Companion, and her new puppy Evie:

Falcon                                           Evie

I wanted to let you all know that we just got "the call" that my boy, Falcon, will be graduating from Canine Companions For Independence (CCI) next week and become a Service Dog in Santa Rosa! We will be flying to Santa Rosa next Thursday for the Graduation on Friday. All I know at this time is that he's matched with a woman. We'll learn more when we arrive at CCI. Needless to say, I'm anxious meet his new life partner and of course, see him! I plan on taking lots of photos to share with you all.

We are thrilled that he's been chosen to do amazing work. I've attached a couple of photos - one of Falcon at CCI and also my new "charge" Evie.

Hope you had a beautiful weekend - in spite of the ❄️❄️❄️❄️

Fondly,
Linda Zinn
