New Member Tea 2015

Special Guests

                                 NEW MEMBER TEA VISITOR

On Thursday, October 8th those new CAL members from the past 12 months who could attend were afforded a delightful experience…a High Tea. The tea served to introduce new members to each other and help establish a bond of friendship with other new members.

For the second year in a row, Joyce Spiller has graciously hosted the tea at her lovely home on West Pine Street. Her home reminds one of an old English country farmhouse complete with requisite teacups right out of Alice in Wonderland. The autumn colored leaves on the trees surrounding her home cooperated too, being at their peak brilliance.

As the ladies arrived and mingled with others, we enjoyed aperitifs made of “bootleg” Elderberry wine splashed over sparking cider. The bootleggers shall remain nameless…but we all know the “twins” well.

We then sat down to beautifully appointed tea tables covered in lace and fine china with the most heavenly scones being were served along with Devonshire cream and fresh made lemon curd. While enjoying these scrumptious offerings, Board members stood and spoke of CAL’s history and how we got to where we are today.

Then Cindy Chenault, dressed as a tiny Victorian housemaid complete with bibbed linen apron, assisted Joyce in serving an assortment of savory tea sandwiches made by the CAL Social Committee. While each new member stood and shared their own personal story…how they arrived in Sandpoint and what led them to CAL…the tea continued to flow now being served with a slice of tasty bundt cake.   think we all had a sugar high at the end of the event.

Everyone remarked on how much they enjoyed the intimacy of the event and from all the chattering going on…many new connections were obviously being made with other ladies…which is what it’s all about and one of the big reasons why we all joined CAL.

P.S. There were some “uninvited” guests that crashed the party. Joyce has four moose (a cow and her this year’s twins plus an amorous a big bull) hanging around her property for a couple of weeks now. We all enjoyed taking photos from the safety of her raised porch.
