Bizarre Bazaar Corner

Dear Volunteers,

What a wild, weird month, weather wise! Unfortunately, the goofy weather has also translated into a less than stellar month so far at Bizarre Bazaar. Let’s hold steady, it will pick up. Traditionally, January has always been a tad bit slower, weather or no. Chalk it up to “after Christmas shopping blues” or whatever you want (weather). Let’s just hang in there.

Speaking of hanging in there, due to weather, we closed early the Monday it snowed to ensure safe travels home for our volunteers. One other day we closed early due to having only the team leader on staff. Ladies, we do need your participation in keeping our magical shop open, so please, step up and sign up (or just drop in!) and help out. Not only do we appreciate it, but also the recipients of our grants and scholarships will appreciate it as well. And, having two or more volunteers per shift is also a safety issue, especially in the winter.

New things! The shelving has arrived, to be installed in the next week. Most of you have also heard about the new storage space that we rented in the building, effective February 1. This does not change things in the shop. Sorters, please sort as usual. What is in season goes on the floor and what is out of season goes on the racks or is put aside for the appropriate season. Your department heads will deal with the rest. How easy is that? On the shelving in the sorting area there will be marked bins for odd things (shoes, bags, scarves, etc.). Please read the labels! And, if you are sorting, all out-of-season clothing goes on hangars, with the exception of t-shirts and men’s and women’s shorts. Thank you!

It also seems to bear repeating, but please do not raid the back racks for winter clothing. AIl is counted out and we still need to be able to put out new things each week. Believe it or not, there is a system. And please, no spring clothes, linen, short sleeve tees, or sun dresses yet!

With this melting weather, we have experienced a few problems with our phone and our credit card machine. We do have an emergency plan in effect, so you will probably be seeing the two of us lurking around a little more frequently. Bear with us!

Team leaders and anyone interested in being a team leader, the big bi-annual meeting is coming up, February 7th, 10 a.m. at Bizarre Bazaar! We are looking forward to seeing you and sharing ideas for the next six months. Lunch to follow, so please RSVP if you are coming.
